PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN OF FPCA
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves
   ·   to nurture our faith through prayer  and Bible study
   ·   to support the mission of the church worldwide
   ·   to work for justice and peace, and
   ·   to build an inclusive, caring community of women that
strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and
witnesses to the promise of God’s Kingdom.

Recognizing that not all churches have organized Presbyterian Women groups, but believing that each woman in the congregation is a Presbyterian woman who may want to know more about the connectional church and the opportunities it affords to women locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, we invite you to consider our goals listed below and share them with all women of your congregation.  We sincerely believe that ours is a viable and relevant ministry that can strengthen the church by providing opportunities for women to address not only women's issues but also issues of the broader church and society.

Our National Capital Presbyterian Women goals are based on the PW Purpose statement, which is a good guide for life.

To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study:
   ·   Have a Presbytery-wide Prayer Breakfast each year which may be ecumenical or interfaith.  The prayer
Breakfast will be February 14, 2009 at the National Presbyterian Church.
   ·   Have a Horizons Bible study overview presented by a local, woman theologian each year at the Fall Gathering.
This year’s Fall Gathering is September 20, 2008 at the Vienna Presbyterian Church.

To support the mission of the church worldwide:
   ·   Provide mission-oriented workshops at Fall Gatherings.
   ·   Provide information and the opportunity to participate in the PW Mission trip to New Orleans, May 17-23, 2009.
   ·   Participate in an “Interfaith Listening Team” experience with a Pakistani group in October.
   ·   Continue to participate in a Sister Church relationship with the First Presbyterian Church of Havana, Cuba, and
expand to churches in Ghana and The Democratic Republic of Congo.
   ·   Participate in Churchwide Celebration Giving opportunities.
   ·   Provide information regarding the opportunity to apply for the Global Mission Exchange.

To work for justice and peace:
   ·   Provide workshops regarding issues such as AIDS, Immigration, Peacemaking, Agricultural Concerns,
Domestic Violence, Elder Abuse, the Intersection of poverty, gender, race and class and the environment.
   ·   Provide information regarding the opportunity to be part of the PW group which will attend the UN Commission
of the Status of Women meeting.

To build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom:
   ·   Establish Racial/ethnic dialogue groups.
   ·   Continue commitment to multicultural awareness through small group interaction.
   ·   Empower women to become leaders in the Presbyterian Church through leadership training.
   ·   Provide opportunities to participate with women in other local congregations as well as in the Presbytery, Synod
       and Churchwide.

To explore various means of communication that will provide current opportunities and information to local PW groups:
   ·   Employ email more extensively as a way to communicate timely information regarding PW.
   ·   Expand our current internet capabilities.
   ·   Upgrade the Channel to include information relevant to a wide demography.
   ·   Continue to emphasize Eministry, teleclasses and conference call meetings when appropriate.
   ·   Realign PW Cluster groups and provide extensive training for Cluster Leaders.
   ·   Promote Horizons, the Magazine of the Presbyterian Women.
